Ughhh, I haven’t sobbed that hard at the end of a movie in a long time! I wanted to smack her daughter and her husband! I was rooting for Laurent but knew Shashi wouldn’t turn her back on her family. She doesn’t put herself first. She is a loving mother to a spoiled brat though! Her daughter continuously looked down on her because she didn’t know English and likened that to being stupid, disrespecting her mother left and right. Her father wasn’t much help, for when there were guests he told them Shashi was born to cook. Ever feel like hitting a man over the head with a frying pan? Several times?

Then there’s Laurent, oh me oh my, Laurent. Sexy sexy Frenchman just wanting to sweep Shashi off her feet. It broke my heart when Shashi told her niece that she didn’t need love, only respect. Lord knows she didn’t get it from her family. I had tears streaming down my face at Shashi’s speech at the wedding. I was like, “ Yeah, you better be shocked! Hell yeah, you BETTER hang your head in shame! How dare you treat her the way you did!”

…..I got mad.

I became emotionally invested in this character. Which means it was a good story for me. It was a good movie and I highly recommend it! It’s not just a chick flick, don’t write it off so casually. It’s a movie about a woman trying to better herself and stand up for herself. To demand respect and to appreciate herself. Basically she found her self worth.
