Molly Weasley is exhausted. She spends her days watching after her five boys and cleaning the house and cooking and—No, Fred, I mean George, I mean–I don’t know which one of you it is–put that down this instant!

Molly Weasley is exhausted, but a smile stretches over her face when she learns she is going to have a sixth child. She doesn’t say anything, but a faint hope flutters in her heart that this one will be a girl.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. Her brothers are fighting in this war and every letter seems to bring terrible news. Fabian and Gideon are resilient, but her heart stops every time she hugs them goodbye. she doesn’t know which goodbye will be the last.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. As a frigid February night fades away into a grey March morning, she delivers her sixth child—another boy. She swallows the initial pang of disappointment as she wraps him up and lays him in the weathered cradle. The boy is chubby and sweet. His blue eyes are clear and innocent and loyal. They name his Ronald Bilius, after her grandfather and Arthur’s uncle.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. Gideon writes her about a woman in the resistance organization who is twenty years old and pregnant. Molly sighs before picking up her quill and dashing off a forced, cheerful reply.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. Ron won’t stop crying and Fabian has written asking if she has time to meet this girl, this Lily Potter, who is pregnant and scared. The flame of sympathy in Molly’s chest is quickly extinguished as she glances around at the house, which is overrun by screaming red-haired boys. She shakes her head sadly and writes back regretfully that she can’t get away from the house just now.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. Gideon and Fabian both write to her with the news that an entire family had been killed by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Molly hugs her boys extra tight and, in the darkness of her bedroom, weeps for the McKinnons.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. Arthur seems to live at the office and the entire world is cloaked in fear. Her heart hammers every time she leaves the house. Her brothers write to say that Lily Potter had her baby and it is a healthy boy named Harry. Molly cracks a small smile but sighs as she writes her reply. She hopes Lily Potter is braver than her.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. Percy has dragon pox and there’s not enough money to buy groceries, let alone new school robes for Bill. Her brothers come to tea and tell her Lily Potter and her husband have gone into hiding. Molly sighs, that must be so difficult. That night, as Arthur works late, Ron sleeps in Molly’s bed, cuddled up to her chest. Molly kisses him on the forehead and thinks about Lily Potter.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. Gideon writes that Lily Potter asked if Molly would like to visit some day and bring her youngest son so the two boys could play, since it’s awfully lonely in hiding. Molly smiles down at her babbling baby Ron, but her heart sinks when she remembers the danger this woman is in. She shakes her head and writes her apologies.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. The fear and grief squeezes her chest so tightly she can barely breathe. She hugs all six of her boys to her chest as silent tears pour down her face. There will be no more letters from Gideon and Fabian.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. It is November 1st and she has just learned she is pregnant again. She has given up hoping for a girl. Arthur floos home from work and runs through the house yelling happily that it’s over, You-Know-Who is gone. Molly jumps up and celebrates with him until he shows her the newspaper.

Molly Weasley is exhausted. Lily Potter is dead, and Molly never got a chance to meet her, to teach her, to comfort her. With one palm resting on her stomach, Molly picks up Ron and kisses his forehead, thinking of another baby boy far away, whose mother died trying to save him.
